‘Bluebell Reverie’ at Bluebell Woods' is part of a collection of works depicting heritage botanicals from Knowsley Hall. The piece is painted as part of a residency at Knowsley Hall estate to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the year of the birth of the 13th Earl of Derby and his significant contribution to natural history, including his patronage of artist Edward Lear.
The artwork seeks to depict the intense colour and variation in the growing habit of the native Bluebell. In springtime, the estate, in parts, appears to be sprayed in huge swathes of this intense blue colour. When painting them, it became clear that these bell-shaped blue blooms are, in fact flooded with a range of intense, saturated hues. It amazed me to look back at my palette when I completed this piece!
There will be some limited edition prints available.
